I am following you from Rebecca Thorman blog. Well, it certainly is a buyers market...so I wish you the best of success. I look forward to following your blog. And no doubt, if you believe that you could be an amazing home flipper...you can!

I grew up in Redwood City (actually a tad south of there if you're counting precise zip codes) and this is so refreshing and wonderful to read. I think the city has worked really hard to give people ways to connect as a community (farmer's market, library, concerts, movie theatre, locally run restaurants, etc.) and that can be so hard in suburbia.

I actually live in Beijing now. In China, cities are growing so quickly and urban planners' footprints are everywhere. I sometimes find it sad to see how much Chinese yuppies want to emulate American suburbanites, with their cars and fast food and such. In some ways Beijing looks like a denser version of America, with highways and chain stores and malls.

I stumbled across your blog pretty randomly, and I'd like to wish you the best of luck in your job search, wherever it may take you!

Sincerely,
Leslie

Rebecca, I appreciate your support! These subjects are far removed from the musings that find themselves on Life in the Middle Lane. I needed a forum to flex the muscles that I've gained in graduate school.

I've alway been a design student in a practical sense. I love to make life better, and a good design always makes life better.

Monica, I am loving your new blog just as much as your other one. I had no idea you had all these amazing ideas on design/development/economics in you (although I totally should have!). I particularly liked this post about how design is important and your comparison to the 60s housing projects. It's extremely important to create environments that nurture and engage the community. Looking forward to future posts!
